For a while now I have been searching for some lipsticks. I google & google... look at hundreds of swatches and....
I'm furious to find out: They. Don't. Exist.
Grrr.
Let's blame Photoshop.
Yes, I could try to create them by mixing different....I don't even have time to complete that sentence.
So below are those lipsticks:
- This Rich Plum: This is supposed to be Maybelline Color Sensational Midnight Plum, but the real thing doesn't look anything like that!
- This Purple: Look at that! It's so GORGEOUS! I thought MAC Violetta was going to be like this, but no.
- This red: Why does every red lipstick want to be like MAC Russian Red or Ruby Woo???! We want this red & finish egg-jackly. [And zomg I can't stop staring at her!]
If you know some of these DO exist, PLEASE tell me where to go

You can check Morgana Cyrptoria for lipsticks - she has a zillion shades of red and purple, so I'm sure you will find these there :)

For the red lipstick in last pic try the maybelline superstay lipcolor in 743.I wanted to get a few shades from this line and I searched for shades on youtube and I liked this color.Here is the link incase u want to see:

ReplyDeleteThe second picture looks like pigment. I think a lot of times artists blend more than one shade to get the effect they want.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great fun post Cynthia! Yes i know photoshop ust raises expectations. A while back temptalia had done this post on her 'dream eyeshadow palette' after photoshopping some shades. I wish that palette existed!!

i hate photoshopped ads:(( it's blatant cheating! sadly it's widely practised everywhere, esp in the makeup industry. I hardly buy anything without checking them personally. my fave red is ruby woo and it's such a wonderful shade. it's a lil bit difficult to apply but the extra step of moisturising/applying balm is well worth it...it's such gorgeous color alone or topped with gloss to give it a lil bit of dimension.and photographs really good too:)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree...this is happening a little less in the UK because so many peopl complain about the government watchdogs are becoming more strict. what really annoys me is when models are wearing fake lashes in mascara adverts...its just wrong!!

What they do is......apply a lip primer....then apply the first coat of lipstick....blot....apply second coat....blot till you get a full on color and then trace the outline of lips with lip liner and fill in a very little bit of balm mixed with lipstick as a top coat and then its photography lights
ReplyDeleteyou can get Lip tars from Obsessive Compulsive cosmetics which are really true to their names and colors and their range is quite vivid.
Photoshop i believe is just an excuse or escapade....There is a pro makeup artist behind it too...LOL
But I have to get the right shade before I do all that, right? LOL. Yes I do want some OCC Lip Tars, though none of these shades are available in them. Hence, the search continues... :)

I have a lipstick very similar to the first one pictured, it's Victoria's Secret "Perfect Lipstick" in Vino. I have swatches on my blog but even they don't represent the vibrancy of it very well ... anyway, you can buy it for $13USD and many Victoria's Secret stores have the makeup line in store so you could swatch it first :)

Ooh I like that last red! I think there are some wine-colored lip liner pencils that actually achieve the deeper red better than lipsticks do. My current favorite is the Urban Decay 24/ liner in Gash. It might be deeper than the one in the photo but still not as bright as the MAC ones you mentioned.

ReplyDeleteSame thing happened wid me too i tried to buy plum shade of Maybelline too but S.A. said if u rub plum shade often it vl turn exact shade i brought on her promises later shade was very different.i even brought another blood red shade wid balm of Maybelline its exact red in the pic :-)

hey CZ.. my mum had that plum shade that is in the Maybelline ad... yea, the exact same one... it was from maybelline.. but i don't know the range or the shade name / number... she got it 3-4 years back though...

This happens all the time.. my lipstick never looks as good as the models, and the shades never match :(
ReplyDeleteJust yesterday I was out with hubby and I had used MAC Offshoot. I asked him "How does this lippie look?".. His reply "Just like all your other lipsticks!"..
How is it possible that all of my 20 lippies are exactly the same, maybe I'm stuck in some makeup rut :(
Hahaha... even I was stuck in a rut, buying the same type of shades all the time! Even my hubby says that I buy same pink/rose shades all the time.
