The Brazilian Wax

The pain really is worth it!

This is for all the Brazilian wax virgins out there who are considering getting it done but afraid you may never come back out of that little room. Believe me, the result is worth it! It'll grow back at a much slower pace and a lot sparser and softer too, minus the prickly ingrowns.

Tips from a first-timer:
  • Pick a reputed place with experienced professionals.
  • Book your appointment on a weekday, when it's not so busy.
  • On D-day, SHOWER before leaving home. If you're going to work first, carry some feminine wet wipes to 'freshen up' before the actual time and wear soft cotton underwear (no G's or thongs and definitely nothing lacy!)
  • Take a painkiller 15-30 minutes before you reach the place.
  • Let your beautician know it's your first time.
  • She will ask you whether you want the hard wax or soft wax. Pick the hard wax. It'll cost a little more but will hurt a lot less than with the soft wax (used with strips.)
  • You'll also need to decide what type you want- Full, heart, landing strip, and lots more. Nowadays even initials, colored designs and whatnot.
This video will give you an idea of the procedure with hard wax:

  • It will take about half an hour to 45 minutes
  • Try not to tense up before the 'pulling' and please, there's no need to screeeam on top of your voice.
  • Divert your mind. Think- sitting on a beach sipping margaritas...ballroom dancing with Shah Rukh Khan or Edward Cullen...being in a MAC store. Whatever pumps up your happy hormones.
  • It'll be over before you know it.
  • Treat yourself to your favorite Baskin Robbins ice-cream or anything nice and cold (You'll know why.) And afterwards, maybe a lipstick or lingerie, to reward your braveness.
Things you might need for after-care: Aloe vera gel, a cooling ice pack, and an optional gentle lightening scrub (for later.)

***Don't do it yourself the first time.

For girls in India looking for places that provide this service, I wish you the best of luck and please let me know when you find any, coz I'm at my wit's end trying to find one myself. I called some popular beauty salons and most didn't even know what it means.
Some salons do bikini waxing though (some list as "V"), a less invasive procedure, which should not be mistaken for the Brazilian.

Good luck ladies!

DBA ^_^

  10. I get a woman to come home and do it for me. She does my pedicure, waxing, etc. too. Total privacy, plus I use my own towels and pedicure kit! I put on some music...sip on green tea...offer her some refreshment...I actually look forward to her visits!! I am sure if you are in India, you can find a beautician like her to make home visits.

Oh wow... it's not that bad.. the video.. you can do this yourself (u can even make the lil wax they had... i don't use actual wax-wax though..use the sugaring (100% natural) wax) and even though it hurt the first time... i couldn't even finish it the first time all in one go.. i got it done and it was pretty kool.. i have done it once more only and it didnt hurt as bad and didnt take more than 2-3 different tries to get all hair off and yes! the hair does grow finer and slower (i sugar my legs so i know)and am going to go on with this removal treatment

  14. Parlours in Ahmedabad are used to doing this... guess gujju girls are braver than most! They're totally professionla and charge 400-500 per session, the first time was the most painful experience of my life and i'll be going for a second shot now after 8 months... this time prepared with a couple of painkillers popped and a topical anasthetic applied to help cope with some of the pain... but its most definitely worth it ladies!

  16. I used to get mine done from Jean Claude in Mumbai n they are awesome! They use a white cream like wax n there is no requirement for waxing strip in that. Also they do a proper brazilian (not just bikini) with a back strip. So far I haven't been able to find out abt any places in Delhi which does it in a similar way. Pls help.

    1. Hi Gunjan, I am a professional beautician and operate through my parlor in Andheri. I suggest if you plan to undergo the process for the first time, do not try the hard wax yourself. Get it done through a professional. You can drop me a note at guptankita87@gmail.com.

  26. Page 3 Salon, in both Nungambakkam and Adayar, in Chennai offer Brazilian waxing for 1500+tax. Called them today. Will be getting my first Brazilian wax in a few days. Let's hope this goes well. Not very comfortable with the idea of a stranger working at my privates for 45 minutes but it sounds way better than doing it yourself!

Either way, I love to hear from you & really appreciate you taking the time out to share your thoughts <3
